My first Larabar

Holy Deliciousness

Oh. My. Goodness.

Yes, my first experience with a Larabar  deserves its own post (well, mostly its own post) because it was THAT good.

I  must admit, I was a little sceptical of the hype I’d been reading on other blogs. I mean, really, what could be so special about a fruit and nut bar?

But then I had one.

And really, they are that good.

Well, the carrot cake flavor is anyway, which is a new flavor. I can’t wait to try the others. I had wanted to try the cookie dough flavor, but I haven’t spotted one of those yet. I felt lucky enough to have found the carrot cake one!

I picked this bar up yesterday when TP and I ventured over to Philly to visit Whole Foods.

This visit was another first for me. I wish I had brought my camera to document the event. I was so impressed by what the store had to offer, and I really didn’t think the prices were that outrageous. In fact, TP and I are already planning a trip back!

I love big coffee mugs and I cannot lie...

I also picked up this little gem from the Philly Starbucks.

I know we’ve already established that I’m not the biggest Starbucks fan (love me some Dunkin Donuts), but I do love big coffee mugs, and the fact that each city has its own mug. I think it will be so cool to see how many I can get from all over the place. Of course, I really don’t have any place to keep/display them right now, but some day. I can’t wait!

Aside from all my excitement, I did run 11 miles in one hour and 40 minutes today (okay, there was some walking in there, too, but given my current health situation, I was pretty proud of myself for getting as far as I did). I love how running makes me feel, and I am so pumped for the rest of the day after a good run.

Oh, I almost forgot. I also picked up this guy  from Whole Foods yesterday.

I hope he tastes as good as he looks!

I LOVE chocolate, and I LOVE hazelnut, so I am so excited to see how this combo tastes.

I decided to go with the “travel” size just to be sure I really like it enough to pay $6 for the jar, though.

I mean, I really doubt there is going to be an issue, but you never know!

Now I just need to decide what I want to try it on. An apple? Bread? Any one have any suggestions?

Well, I guess that’s about it for now.

Hello, all!

Not much to report today.

In fact, I have  had a really hard time getting up the motivation to even post.

But I want to make this blog thing work, so I figure I need to push myself to write, even when I don’t feel like it (which is my mantra with a lot of things – even if you don’t feel like doing something, do it, because in the long run, you will be happier with yourself that you did it.)

I started the day with a 60 minute walk with TP, followed by some breakfast and then some cooking. We’re getting ready for TP’s birthday celebration tomorrow for her husband, who turned 30 last week. It’s a pig roast, which I am really looking forward to. I will definitely post some pictures after the big shin-dig!

I was at her house for most of the morning and into the early part of the afternoon. I headed to Wal-Mart when I left her house, and then I came home to hang out for the rest of the day.

I got some depressing news when I did finally get home. It is going to cost me $89 to get my Garmin fixed. Are they serious? It hasn’t even been six months since I got the thing. Can they really expect me to practically pay for another one just to get it fixed? I’m pretty frustrated by the whole situation, incase you couldn’t tell.

On that note, I think I’m going to go curl up with a good book and relax for a bit.

Shop-aholic I am not… except for the past two days

Pretty, Pretty Dresses 🙂

I have a confession to make.

In a move very unlike me, I have spent the last two days shopping.

One very important thing you should know about me is that I do not like to spend money, and when I do, it is only on items I feel I truly need.

Something else you should know about me is that I really do no like to shop (Well, I guess I need to clarify that and say “shop for clothes,” because I do love food shopping, and can spend hours at the grocery store. Which I did today). I do not have the patience to go through rack after rack of clothes, so really the only time I clothes shop is when I absolutely need something.

Having said all that, yesterday I visited Ross, TJ Maxx and Marshall’s with my best friend, TP, and enjoyed every minute of it. I think I looked at every article of clothing that I could fit into, and then some.

Then today, TP and I ventured to Big Lots, Family Dollar and Aldi (not really clothes shopping, but not really food shopping, either).

I didn’t really buy too much today at those three stores, but yesterday I bought three dresses at Ross. I think they are all super cute, and I can’t wait to have the opportunity to wear them!

After hanging out with Tara this afternoon, I came home and went to the grocery store, where I did spend an hour and a half going up and down every isle. I spent $40, and considering I went there without really knowing what I needed, I’d say that was a splurge. I bought some fun items though, including a few I have never purchased before: tofu, sparkling seltzer and these energy bites.

Hmmmm, I wonder how good these will be?

I am super excited to try the energy bites, since I am currently looking for ways to fuel on my long runs. Has anyone tried them? Does anyone have any fuel recommendations?

Speaking of long runs, I ran 55 minutes this morning, which totalled about 6.6 miles. I had to use an application I found on my Droid to keep track of my run, since my Garmin is still acting up. I tried calling the company today, but was not able to speak to anyone before I gave up on the 30 minute wait time. I will be emailing them this evening to see if I can get any help that way.

Yesterday was a cross training day, so I rode 45 minutes on my bike, then did 20 minutes of toning.

Currently, I am sitting in my kitchen listening to the washer whirl, and impatiently waiting for the apple sauce cake I just threw in the oven to bake. It smells suuuper yummy, and if it tastes good, I will be sure to post the recipe for you.

I know I have promised you a recap of the concert we went to Saturday night. I assure you, I will get my butt in gear and have it up for you to enjoy, soon!

Do you have your own washer and dryer at home, or do you have to take yours to a laundry mat?  When I lived in my apartment I had a washer and dryer in the basement, which cost $1.75 to wash and $2.00 to dry. It was a pain in the butt to have to lug everything up and down stairs, in addition to having to pay for it, so I am so happy I now have the luxury of my own washer and dryer.

Playing Catch-up

Hellooo!

So,  I have some really fabulous photos to post from Saturday’s concert, but my camera is currently MIA (I think it’s in my Jeep, to be honest), so they’ll have to wait for another post.

Not that I don’t have enough to post about anyway – I haven’t posted since Friday! (Well, technically I posted just a few hours ago, since Friday’s post didn’t publish when I thought it was going to, but we still have a lot of catching up to do!)

When I last left you, I was re-grouping from my best friend’s grandfather’s funeral services.

As it turns out, Friday was also my best friend’s husband’s 30th birthday, and while she is having a party for him this Saturday, she felt bad that she didn’t have anything planned for his actual birthday, besides a funeral.

Well, when JP got home from work Friday night, he proclaimed only Pizza Hut would tame his hunger. I must admit, I wasn’t thrilled by the idea, but I called my bestest to see if she and her birthday boy husband would be interested in joining us. They said yes, and we were off.

Turns out Pizza Hut can be a pretty fun place, especially since our local branch is BYOB. That meant sangria for me and TP, and Summer Ale for JP and the birthday boy. Seriously, we could not have been happier. It was a great night.

While stuffed, we came back and tried the brownies I made for the birthday boy. To be honest, they were okay, but nothing to write home about. I think keeping them in the fridge made the brownies too hard…

Saturday morning, I ran 10 miles instead of the planned 7. I was actually all set to run 11, but then my Garmin quit, and I had no idea how much further I had to go to reach 11, so I just started walking.

I spent the rest of the day hanging out outside, since it was so beautiful, and getting ready for the Gary Allan/Brooks and Dunn concert. All I have to say about the concert right now is OH MY GOODNESS.

Sunday was a rest day for me training-wise, and that’s exactly what JP and I did – rest. We did end up going to TP’s house to hang out by her pool and to have dinner and get ice cream, but that’s about all we did all day – hang out and eat. And it was grand.

Sorry, no pictures today. And I’m now a day behind in posting, but I’ll be back tomorrow with a re-cap of today, and the concert. Woo-hoo! Get excited!

To ride or not to ride

Waving hello from the top of the stairs that I fell down the other day. Yeah, they call me grace.

Hey hey!

I hope everyone is enjoying their Wednesday!

Today was a cross-training day for me, so I headed out at 6 a.m. for a quick 45 minute ride on my bike.

Good ole Pink. Not the best road bike, but not the worst, either. It does the job.

Honestly, I have come to discover that I’m not a huge fan of biking, but I know that I should give my legs a rest from running during my training, and biking is one of the only other options I have.

I think my biggest problem with biking is that I’m afraid I’m going to fall off or get hit by a car. I get severe anxiety when a vehicle goes by me, and when I have to climb hills, I get a little wobbly.

I made it through, though, and am happy to report I rode just under 10 miles in those 45 minutes. I’m not really sure, but I don’t think that’s too shabby :o)

After my workout I followed what has become my morning routine: shower, eat breakfast, fill up with coffee, and head out for the summer enrichment program.

Usually I head to the library after work for some emailing and blog reading, but today I  headed to a local apartment complex to check out what apartments are available. TP’s mom is probably going to be moving back into the area, and needs a place to live, so I volunteered to check the place out for them (TP’s grandfather just passed away, so while the apartment hunting needs to take place, it’s not really on the top of their list, and I happily offered to do some shopping around for them).

They are really cute apartments, and if I could afford one, I’d move there myself.

I did eventually make it to the library, which is where I typed the majority of my post. I wanted to add some photos, though, so I had to wait to publish the post until I could get home and add some.

When I got home I mixed up a green monster and had some peanuts before busting out about 15 minutes of toning moves. I honestly wasn’t really feeling toning this afternoon, but once I got started it wasn’t too bad.

In total, I did 75 regular push ups, 75 side push ups on both sides, 45 dips, a bunch of punches, 30 side kicks on both legs, 30 leg lifts on both legs, and 45 of these things I call “Ts”, where I basically bend over holding a five-pound weight, put both my arms out and one leg, and then bring them in towards each other, which counts as one rep. It’s kind of hard to explain, but believe me, they’re a work out.

I am currently sitting on my bedroom floor, blogging and watching the Barefoot Contessa. I just finished rolling a frozen water bottle on my legs, and I am sitting in chilled, relaxed bliss.

It’s Friday!

Well, I did it.

Ten glorious miles in an hour and half.

All before most of my friends were even thinking about getting out of bed.

And it felt great.

Saturdays are usually my long run days, but we are leaving for Maine at midnight tonight, and I knew I would probably not be in any shape to run long distances tomorrow.

So I swapped my rest day to tomorrow, and ran today instead.

It was funny, I left the house at 6:35 and returned around 8:10. I couldn’t believe I had been running for THAT long. Three more miles though, and I would have finished a half marathon. Woo hoo. It felt good, too. Not as easy as the last time I ran 10 miles, but it was not as humid that day, either, so I really can’t compare.

I’m not really sure what motivates me to get up and run such distances. All I can say is it just feels right.

Now I’m just finishing up some last-minute errands, and waiting for midnight to get here. Today is going to be a loooong day!

I didn’t post yesterday, so I thought I’d let you know what my day consisted of.

I knew I was going to be running a lot of mileage today, so I didn’t want to tire my legs out, but I also wanted to get a bit of cardio in.

So I started things off with wind-sprints: I sprinted as fast as I could for 1 minute, and then jogged back to where I started, and sprinted again – for a total of 10 minutes. I preceded the sprints with a 5 minute warm-up, and ended with a 10 minute cool-down. In total I went about 3 miles in 30 minutes. It was the perfect way to start the day.

When I got home, I did the following sequences:

  1. 25 squats
  2. 10 side kicks on both legs
  3. 15 push-ups

Repeat 2 times

  1. 1 minute squat hold
  2. 32 jabs with my right arm, 32 with my left, then 64 combined
  3. 40 twisting crunches

Repeat 2 more times

Overall, I felt like I had a great work out yesterday, without feeling too tired.

I then went to the enrichment program, and got my nails done with TP.

We followed our nail session up with a two-hour chatfest at Dunkin Donuts, my favorite place ever. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

It’s a gray day

Storm clouds we kept an eye on the other night while at the Tim McGraw concert. We were so afraid we were going to get soaked, but luckily, the rain held off

It’s been pretty dreary here in New Jersey that past two days.

Now, do not get me wrong. Dreary does not mean we’ve lost the heat and humidity we’ve been experiencing the past two weeks. It just means instead of blaring sun, we’ve been dealing with overcast skies and random downpours, along with the heat and humidity.  Needless to say, it’s been interesting getting dressed in the morning. I can’t figure out what to wear!

Luckily, I have been able to still get up at 6 a.m. and get my workout in, both before the heat hits, and another storm. The humidity has been making my breathing a little funky, but I guess you can’t win ’em all.

After running 6 miles this morning, I hopped in the shower, had some breakfast, and was out the door for another day at the enrichment program. Seriously, these kids are definitely helping me get through this summer, and they make me laugh the whole time I’m there.

TP and I at a benefit a couple of weeks ago

I had a lunch date with this girl after work, which was definitely something to look forward to. We hit-up a local sandwich place where I had a “Slim-T,” which included ham, turkey, lettuce, tomatoes and sweet peppers on a wheat roll. It was so good, and a nice treat on such a dreary day.

I am now currently trying to figure out to do with the rest of my day. I should be packing for my trip (we leave Friday  night, yay!) but I hate packing, so I’ve been doing everything BUT that this afternoon.

Trying to win upgraded tickets to the Brad Paisley concert. Just so you know, I am NOT flexible, apparently. I was one of the first people out.

In lieu of anything better to do, I thought I’d reveal to you five things you might not know about me:

  1. I love coffee in general, but Dunkin Donuts hazelnut is my favorite
  2. I have two star tattoos – one on my back, and one on my foot
  3. I really do not know what I want to be “when I grow up,” but I am sure some day I’ll figure it out.
  4. I’ve recently been spending a lot of my free time at the local library – for the free internet and AC – and as dorky as it may make me sound, I really actually enjoy being surrounded by books. There is so much to read.
  5. I love to bake, but am not that great at cooking. I’m working on it.
