12 Aug

Well, I am not going to lie and say I am not disappointed that I am not attending this year’s Healthy Living Summit.

It was actually around this time last year that I started reading blogs, and all of the bloggers were talking about the first HLS. I told myself I would be attending this year, and it just didn’t happen.

I actually got put on the waiting list to get a ticket, and when I was contacted to see if I wanted a ticket, I just could not make it work. Oh well, at least I will be able to read about all the fun everyone is having. I just can’t help but think about all the blogging opportunities I am missing. I really would like to make my blog become something other people would like to read, I just don’t know how to get in that direction…

My bike 🙂

At any rate, instead of getting ready to hop on a plane to Chicago, my day started off with a 45 minute bike ride.

After my ride, I met up with TP and her mom, who are actually heading to Maryland for the next couple of days. I was invited to join them, but JP and I have tickets to a baseball game tonight and a concert tomorrow, so I declined. I think TP needs some alone time with her mom anyway, so it’s for the best.

After a delicious breakfast, I stopped at the local Amish market, where I picked up some dried fruit and nuts. Then it was off to Kohl’s, where I made some minor purchases, but nothing too exciting.

Then I stopped to get some coffee before heading to the library, where I currently sit in a bit of a slump.

The doctor’s office called while I was here and said the blood work I had done on Monday came back normal, so I am still trying to figure out why I feel so wonky. Maybe the tests I have scheduled for next week will tell us something?

At any rate, I have a baseball game to get ready for, so I better get going.

Cross your fingers it doesn’t rain!

Talk to you soon.

Keep smiling!

Do you have a favorite MLB team? I love the Red Sox, but since I live near Philly, I pull for them, too. Well, up until playoffs anyway 🙂

My first Larabar

11 Aug

Holy Deliciousness

Oh. My. Goodness.

Yes, my first experience with a Larabar  deserves its own post (well, mostly its own post) because it was THAT good.

I  must admit, I was a little sceptical of the hype I’d been reading on other blogs. I mean, really, what could be so special about a fruit and nut bar?

But then I had one.

And really, they are that good.

Well, the carrot cake flavor is anyway, which is a new flavor. I can’t wait to try the others. I had wanted to try the cookie dough flavor, but I haven’t spotted one of those yet. I felt lucky enough to have found the carrot cake one!

I picked this bar up yesterday when TP and I ventured over to Philly to visit Whole Foods.

This visit was another first for me. I wish I had brought my camera to document the event. I was so impressed by what the store had to offer, and I really didn’t think the prices were that outrageous. In fact, TP and I are already planning a trip back!

I love big coffee mugs and I cannot lie...

I also picked up this little gem from the Philly Starbucks.

I know we’ve already established that I’m not the biggest Starbucks fan (love me some Dunkin Donuts), but I do love big coffee mugs, and the fact that each city has its own mug. I think it will be so cool to see how many I can get from all over the place. Of course, I really don’t have any place to keep/display them right now, but some day. I can’t wait!

Aside from all my excitement, I did run 11 miles in one hour and 40 minutes today (okay, there was some walking in there, too, but given my current health situation, I was pretty proud of myself for getting as far as I did). I love how running makes me feel, and I am so pumped for the rest of the day after a good run.

Oh, I almost forgot. I also picked up this guy  from Whole Foods yesterday.

I hope he tastes as good as he looks!

I LOVE chocolate, and I LOVE hazelnut, so I am so excited to see how this combo tastes.

I decided to go with the “travel” size just to be sure I really like it enough to pay $6 for the jar, though.

I mean, I really doubt there is going to be an issue, but you never know!

Now I just need to decide what I want to try it on. An apple? Bread? Any one have any suggestions?

Well, I guess that’s about it for now.

Have a great afternoon everyone.

Keep smiling!

What’s your favorite kind of nut butter? What do you like to spread it on?

Thirsty Tuesday?

10 Aug

I know it’s supposed to be Thirsty Thursday, but after the day I had, I was so happy to indulge in a margarita at happy hour today. Don’t you think Thirsty Tuesday could catch on?

But let’s back up. I know I haven’t been here for a few days.

A re-cap:

Saturday: 8 mile run, followed by playing nurse to JP, who had a swollen eye, then down to TP’s to help her for the pig roast. We didn’t get home til 11:30. Let’s just say it was a looong day.

Sunday: slept in, had some Dunkin Donuts (love!), then headed down to JP’s uncle’s for the afternoon. It was so nice to spend such a lazy day by the pool after Saturday’s craziness.

Monday: down to the shore with TP

Tuesday: got up to go for a run this morning and could barely move, so I went to the doctor’s. I had some blood drawn and need to have some other tests. I’ll keep you posted on how it all goes, but after such a crappy morning, I needed some retail therapy, so TP and I drove to Philly to visit Whole Foods. The plan was also to get Phileo, but one of our friends called to invite us to happy hour, so we opted for that instead. Good choice.

So that’s my weekend, and the past two days in a nutshell. Sorry it’s so quick, but I’m obviously not feeling so great, and I’m really just ready for bed.

I hope everyone else is having a great week so far.

Keep smiling!

Do you prefer Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts? I am a Dunk girl all.the.way.

6 Aug

Hello, all!

Not much to report today.

In fact, I have  had a really hard time getting up the motivation to even post.

But I want to make this blog thing work, so I figure I need to push myself to write, even when I don’t feel like it (which is my mantra with a lot of things – even if you don’t feel like doing something, do it, because in the long run, you will be happier with yourself that you did it.)

I started the day with a 60 minute walk with TP, followed by some breakfast and then some cooking. We’re getting ready for TP’s birthday celebration tomorrow for her husband, who turned 30 last week. It’s a pig roast, which I am really looking forward to. I will definitely post some pictures after the big shin-dig!

I was at her house for most of the morning and into the early part of the afternoon. I headed to Wal-Mart when I left her house, and then I came home to hang out for the rest of the day.

I got some depressing news when I did finally get home. It is going to cost me $89 to get my Garmin fixed. Are they serious? It hasn’t even been six months since I got the thing. Can they really expect me to practically pay for another one just to get it fixed? I’m pretty frustrated by the whole situation, incase you couldn’t tell.

On that note, I think I’m going to go curl up with a good book and relax for a bit.

I hope everyone has a good evening.

Keep smiling!

Do you own a Garmin Forerunner? Has it caused you any trouble?

Three Things Thursday: The Gary Allan and Brooks and Dunn Concert

5 Aug

I totally forgot about Three Things Thursday until I glanced at my blog reader and saw the posts of other bloggers who do “TTT.”

I immediately decided I could incorporate my concert review around TTT.

I hope you enjoy!

Gary in action... He is fabulous live

I couldn’t get very many good pictures at this concert, because there was a girl in a bright blue cowboy hat dancing around in front of me that kept blocking my view. And while I did manage to catch a few good ones, the photos do no justice to the live music 🙂

2. I am so happy I got to be a part of Brooks and Dunn’s last tour.

Kix Brooks on the big screen - I believe Ronnie is up there on the smaller screens

JP and I have seen B & D before, but this concert was very unique. They really played to the crowd, and even asked for requests. It was one of the better concerts we’ve been to this summer.

3. I love spending time with JP.

Taking some fun photos while waiting for the concert to start

This is the first summer we’ve gone to concerts on our own (usually we go in big groups), and to be honest, we’ve been having a great time. I was a little nervous that going by ourselves might be boring, since we are so used to going with large groups, but we have had no problem entertaining ourselves. I love that kid 🙂

Waiting for the show to start

Well, have a good one. Keep smiling!

That Little Thing Called Life

5 Aug

Sorry I didn’t post yesterday. That little thing called life got in the way 🙂

At any rate, yesterday morning started off with a nice 35 minute walk/jog, followed by 25 minutes of toning.

Today, I did some speed work and jogging for 45 minutes. It was intense 🙂

I spent the last two mornings at the enrichment program, but today was my last day, so I won’t be going to school/working any more for at least three weeks. I think I might go crazy!

Both days after work I went shopping – yesterday I went to Target, CVS and Rite Aid (I’m in search of other fueling products for my runs). Today I got an oil change and went to Kmart (I’m looking for a food scale. Anyone have any suggestions on where to find one?)

Both days after shopping, I headed to the library to get some reading done. The only difference is today I have my laptop with me, and yesterday I didn’t, hence the reason why I didn’t blog.

Unlike yesterday, I have no plans for this evening.

Last night I went out for happy hour with four other girls. It was a fun night, and definitely needed.

I’m not sure what I’ll be doing tonight. Likely making dinner (I’m thinking stir-fry) and just hanging out at the house. Not that I’m complaining. Sometimes you need a down night.

I think I’ll get a start on that concert post.

Have a good afternoon!

Keep smiling!

Anyone have any fun plans for the evening?

Shop-aholic I am not… except for the past two days

3 Aug

Pretty, Pretty Dresses 🙂

I have a confession to make.

In a move very unlike me, I have spent the last two days shopping.

One very important thing you should know about me is that I do not like to spend money, and when I do, it is only on items I feel I truly need.

Something else you should know about me is that I really do no like to shop (Well, I guess I need to clarify that and say “shop for clothes,” because I do love food shopping, and can spend hours at the grocery store. Which I did today). I do not have the patience to go through rack after rack of clothes, so really the only time I clothes shop is when I absolutely need something.

Having said all that, yesterday I visited Ross, TJ Maxx and Marshall’s with my best friend, TP, and enjoyed every minute of it. I think I looked at every article of clothing that I could fit into, and then some.

Then today, TP and I ventured to Big Lots, Family Dollar and Aldi (not really clothes shopping, but not really food shopping, either).

I didn’t really buy too much today at those three stores, but yesterday I bought three dresses at Ross. I think they are all super cute, and I can’t wait to have the opportunity to wear them!

After hanging out with Tara this afternoon, I came home and went to the grocery store, where I did spend an hour and a half going up and down every isle. I spent $40, and considering I went there without really knowing what I needed, I’d say that was a splurge. I bought some fun items though, including a few I have never purchased before: tofu, sparkling seltzer and these energy bites.

Hmmmm, I wonder how good these will be?

I am super excited to try the energy bites, since I am currently looking for ways to fuel on my long runs. Has anyone tried them? Does anyone have any fuel recommendations?

Speaking of long runs, I ran 55 minutes this morning, which totalled about 6.6 miles. I had to use an application I found on my Droid to keep track of my run, since my Garmin is still acting up. I tried calling the company today, but was not able to speak to anyone before I gave up on the 30 minute wait time. I will be emailing them this evening to see if I can get any help that way.

Yesterday was a cross training day, so I rode 45 minutes on my bike, then did 20 minutes of toning.

Currently, I am sitting in my kitchen listening to the washer whirl, and impatiently waiting for the apple sauce cake I just threw in the oven to bake. It smells suuuper yummy, and if it tastes good, I will be sure to post the recipe for you.

I know I have promised you a recap of the concert we went to Saturday night. I assure you, I will get my butt in gear and have it up for you to enjoy, soon!

In the mean time, keep smiling!

Do you have your own washer and dryer at home, or do you have to take yours to a laundry mat?  When I lived in my apartment I had a washer and dryer in the basement, which cost $1.75 to wash and $2.00 to dry. It was a pain in the butt to have to lug everything up and down stairs, in addition to having to pay for it, so I am so happy I now have the luxury of my own washer and dryer.
