About Me
I am a 27-year-old Maine native currently living in New Jersey. While it has taken some adjusting, I am learning to love my adopted state, and I enjoy discovering all the hidden gems the state has to offer.
I moved to New Jersey in 2001 when I was accepted to Rutgers University. I graduated from RU in 2005 with a degree in Journalism. Since then I’ve been a meeting planner, reporter, customer service agent and substitute teacher. I’ve worn just a few hats in my short life time, but everything happens for a reason, and I truly believe every step I’ve taken in my professional career will eventually lead me to where I’m meant to be.
I met my boyfriend, JP, around 2004, and we’ve been through just as much together. In my heart of hearts I know we’re meant to be together, and as mushy as it sounds, I think I’ve known that from the first day I met him. He has a loving heart and a caring soul, and no matter how tempermental his Irish hertiage makes him (which actually isn’t that bad), I love him for putting up with me.
It’s difficult for me to be away from my parents (hi Mom, hi Dad), but I truly appeciate all that I have learned in New Jersey and I believe I am a better and stronger person for living here on my own. I hope to return to Maine some day, even if it is for the summers, and in the long run I think everything will turn out okay.
Things I love
When I could afford a gym membership, I was defintely a self-proclaimed gym rat. Having recently cancelled my gym membership to save money, however, I have been working hard to find ways to work out, and running has become one of my passions. I think the challenge to change up my work outs has been fun, and while I miss the availability of weights, I have truly enjoyed coming up with new strength routines to try out.
The difference between me and a lot of the bloggers I read is that I do not have a weight loss story to tell. Sure, I lost some weight during my transition from college to the real world, but not by any effort of my own – it just happened. I think it was a combination of eating fewer processed foods and finding a passion in running, but I cannot pin-point one thing that may have contributed to the loss. I eat what I want because I believe in the mantra “everything in moderation,” and I work out because I love how it makes me feel.
I also enjoy reading, writing and food (namely ice cream, yum!), and these hobbies keep me busy. If I’m not reading a blog/book/newspaper/magazine, I can be found writing a post for my own blog, or researching a new recipe to create.
